Things To Do in Essex This February Half Term 2018

08/02/2018

Another half term is already upon us even though it feels like Christmas was only yesterday. Get ready for a week full of fun with the kids while they enjoy a break from school.

We’ve gathered a list of events happening this half term, though don’t forget that you can enjoy some of these Essex walks, or visit one of these Essex parks as well.

Essex Rocks - Chelmsford Museum

Saturday 10th February
10am - 4pm
Entry: Free

Did you know that buried under Chelmsford is a Jurassic island that used to be home to dinosaurs? Just because the kids are on a school holiday doesn’t mean they have to stop learning, and Chelmsford Museum has set up a day for kids to find out about this long-lost land.

The experience provided at ‘Essex Rocks’ is hands-on, where children can handle rocks, pebbles, and fossils that go back 100 million years.

This is set to be a fun learning experience for the whole family.

Adventure Island - Southend-on-Sea

From Saturday 10th February
Adventure Island, Sunken Garden, Western Esplanade, Southend on Sea, Essex SS1 1EE
Cost: Wristbands from £15

Adventure Island reopens after its winter closure in time for the half term.

You can expect to see all your favourite rides ready for a fun day out for all the family, including the dodgems, adventure golf, and Tidal Green Wave.

Don’t forget to treat you and the family to some classic fish and chips, and ice cream.

Snowdrop Sundays - Hedingham Castle, Halsted

Sunday 11th and 18th February
11am - 4pm
Entry: Adults £8.50, over 65s £7.50, under 18s £6, family £25, under 5s free

If you’re looking to spend some time outdoors with the kids, head down to Hedingham Castle. The castle itself is reason enough to visit, but during February the motte and bailey put on a beautiful display of Snowdrops.

There are at least 13 varieties to enjoy as you walk through the woods that surround the castle. Don’t forget to visit the castle too and learn all about its history and artifacts.

Early Man Quest - Audley End, Saffron Walden

Sunday 10th - Sunday 18th Feb
10am - 4pm

This event is inspired by the film Early Man, in cinemas from the 26th January. It tells the story of caveman Dug and his sidekick Hognob as they and Dug’s tribe battle the Bronze Age.

Explore the house and gardens at Audley End using the clues to help you find Dug, Hognob, and the rest of the early man tribe all while uncovering centuries of history!

You can even win an Early Man mini model-making kit.

Spy School - Audley End, Saffron Walden

Monday 12th - Friday 16th February
11am - 4pm
Cost: Adults £10.90, children 5-15 £6.50, concs £9.80, family £28.30, English Heritage members Free

If you’re looking for something fun for the kids on the half term weekdays, take them to Audley End to learn how to become secret agents!

This fun day out will test their abilities, sharpening their skills with training in code cracking and clue solving.

Fairies and Dragons - Marsh Farm, South Woodham Ferrers

Monday 12th - Sunday 18th February
Cost: Online £10.99, on the door £13.50, under 2s Free

Marsh Farm is back with another half term activity for you and the kids this February. This time you can meet the fairies in their fairy garden, all while watching out for the dragon. Don’t forget to visit the unicorns too!

There will also be children's shows and a treasure hunt as well as the normal crazy golf, tractor rides, and indoor play barn.

It’s also lambing season, so you can visit the newborn lambs.
