Christmas is almost here! Amid the last minute scramble to buy and wrap gifts, the kids finishing school for the year, and family starting to arrive, you’ve got to plan how you’re going to keep everyone entertained!
Luckily there are lots of events in Essex for you to visit with the family, taking place between now and the New Year.
We’ve gathered a list so that you don’t need to do the searching.
Audley End are hosting a number of events over the festive period.
Friday 15th - Saturday 23rd December
From 4:30pm to 9pm each night, visit the ground of Audley End to experience them in a completely different light. In the dark, explore amongst lanterns and fairy lights that guide you through the garden to a magical wonderland.
Meet the ‘escaped wildlife’ roaming the gardens and enjoy the sound of choral music playing during your visit.
Don’t miss the mince pies and mulled wine, and the Christmas shopping at the heritage-inspired shop.
Meet Father Christmas on select dates throughout December. Listen to his stories amongst the decorated scenery, and lucky visitors can even get a festive gift!
Pre-booking is required.
Wednesday 27th - Friday 29th December
A slightly different twist on festive celebrations, visit Audley End to meet Hawks, Owls, and Falcons. Watch as falconers demonstrate exercising and hunting with the birds, and learn about how food was caught for the Christmas dinner table.
Experience a range of drive in films in the run up to christmas at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park, in the car park off the A414.
Booking in advance is essential as these showings are selling out fast.
Sunday 17th December
This used to be an ordinary semi-detached ex council house in Essex, but over 25 years it has been transformed into what the Sunday Times has dubbed ‘Britain’s most extraordinary home’.
It now houses over 1,800 items from 27 different countries around the world, as well as specifically decorated rooms and gardens to create a truly magical space.
Guided tours are lead by a member of the creative team, telling the story of each room and location. Visitors in December will also receive festive food and drink to enjoy.
